Debunking Stephen King

You all know why celebrities and famous people tend to be liberal? It’s because they really haven’t worked all that hard to earn what they have – they got lucky. They think that other rich people got rich that way, too. They’re wrong though. The vast majority of high net worth people got that way through diligent saving and responsible choices.

Stephen King and the turd from Maroon 5 who felt compelled to speak out recently don’t understand that there are a lot of people out there who – although well off and affluent – have actually busted their ass to earn what they have. They think that most rich people have won life’s lottery.

Stephen King is a good author and I’m sure in his own way he’s worked pretty hard to produce the books he does. But let’s face it, writing is not the hardest job in the world. If you got rich doing that, I can see why you would be led to believe that other rich people got rich by getting lucky. Do you think that Stephen King would say “tax me more” if he spent his career getting out of bed, showering every morning, and listening to some shmuck boss for 30+ years like a lot of us have to do? Doubt it.

His article, Tax Me, for F@%&’s Sake! appeared today on the Daily Beast. In it, he says:

“I’ve known rich people, and why not, since I’m one of them? The majority would rather douse their dicks with lighter fluid, strike a match, and dance around singing “Disco Inferno” than pay one more cent in taxes to Uncle Sugar.”

Yeah, because most of your rich buddies worked for what they have. You became a successful writer – which, let’s face it, is a lot like winning the lottery. A lot of gifted writers go unnoticed all the time.

What charitable 1-percenters can’t do is assume responsibility—America’s national responsibilities: the care of its sick and its poor, the education of its young, the repair of its failing infrastructure, the repayment of its staggering war debts

Liberals want you to think that these are mainly the things that the government does. If they get people thinking this, nobody would really have a problem with paying taxes. Hell, I’d even pony up a few bucks myself if I knew my money was going to “care for the sick and educate the young.” But the truth is that the government is spending our money predominantly on bullshit.

I guess some of this mad right-wing love comes from the idea that in America, anyone can become a Rich Guy if he just works hard and saves his pennies. Mitt Romney has said, in effect, “I’m rich and I don’t apologize for it.” Nobody wants you to, Mitt. What some of us want—those who aren’t blinded by a lot of bullshit persiflage thrown up to mask the idea that rich folks want to keep their damn money—is for you to acknowledge that you couldn’t have made it in America without America. That you were fortunate enough to be born in a country where upward mobility is possible (a subject upon which Barack Obama can speak with the authority of experience), but where the channels making such upward mobility possible are being increasingly clogged.

Yes, it’s true that you can only make it big in free societies with robust economies. You know what the opposite of a free society with a robust economy is? I’d say probably a socialist dictatorship like Cuba or North Korea. Now I’m not saying that King is advocating turning us into Cuba – he’s really advocating turning us into something like Greece.

Never mind that soaking the rich won’t even start to solve our debt problem – even if you want to do it simply on principle, you will stifle a great deal of investment – something that grows companies and creates jobs.
